PHOENIX (AP) - Hours after Phoenix police got a call reporting a 13-year-old girl as a runaway, firefighters returned to find her unconscious with burn injuries.
Phoenix television station KSAZ (http://bit.ly/YUycy6 ) cited a Phoenix fire captain in saying that Briana Naylor was in cardiac arrest when firefighters responded to the Phoenix home Thursday morning. She later died at the hospital.
Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Friday that police had been called to the home earlier Thursday by Naylor's mother, who told them her daughter ran away. Naylor returned home while officers were there.
Thompson says Naylor was the only person inside the home when firefighters responded to a call about smoke coming from the back of the house.
Authorities say they found her in a bedroom.
